occasionally I get a popping noise that almost sounds like quick bursts of static fuzz. They are no louder than the music. I originally thought a speaker was blown, but I don't think that's it.

check this out: while driving, if I put my car in neutral and rev the engine with the stereo on of course, the popping noise occurs (almost every time). It seems to be coming from the front passenger area, but its hard to say. Then I noticed that the noise only happens under regular driving conditions when I floor it.

So, the best I can come up with is that a sharp increase in rpms boosts the alternator's output quickly. Maybe a voltage regulator is not functioning properly? I'd rather not drop it off at the dealer with no guidance. They will dismantle my interior and then its creeks and cracks forever.

Any ideas? Has anyone experienced this problem?

07' 550i with logic 7, ipod kit (this problem occurs with all audio sources)

P.S. I tightened the battery cables and that did nothing.

I have got EXACTLY the same problem! Thought I was going crazy, but at least now I know I'm not. In my car the static usually occurs at high revs, and even after the revs dropped, it will have some static for a few seconds.

This happens if I drop a gear and haul a$$. Its for a brief second, but sounds reaallly budget. I'd love to know why this occurs..

Guys, do you have any after-market lights on the car (e.g. AIB etc)?

Nope, no aftermarket lights or anything. Stock standard 525i. I'm not a technical guy, but it seems that something like the alternator or something is interfering with the sound, because it only happens when the revs climb.

Could be a bad/loose grounding point somewhere in the audio system. Take off the left side cover in trunk and check if you can find the grounding point of the amplifier. Check plug connections too. GL with the issue.
