EGR problem?
Hi you all!
After reading some of the topics regarding EGR and intake manifold, my eyes are tyred and still confused.
These days I've cleaned up the EGR valve from my 03.2004 530d.(just for prevention, no errors, no engine problems)
Not surprised to find lot of dirt in there, but surprised to see that the valve didn't move at all first, and started to move very hard after cleaning. So i guess untill now my EGR didn't work?(no faults on the dash). After cleaning, the engine is running the same way like before, no difference.Questions:
1.How can i find out if it's working now?(except replacing it, and observe if any difference).
2.Can i gain some power or a better response of the car by having the EGR working,or doi have these things when it's not working?
Thank you.

2) I don't think either way will give any more power. But sure a cleaner engine when it's shut.

I have a suspected EGR problem with my 2006 525d, which is still under warranty. BMW UK have advised my local dealer to remove the vacuum hose temporarily (24hrs) to see if the running problems still exist.
My economy hasn't really been affected but the engine management light has come up showing an error with emissions which is to be expected, I believe.
I didn't remove the pipe, but only took a couple of minutes to do. Apprently if the car runs better without this pipe this would start to point towards an EGR issue....worth asking your garage?
