E60M54 vs E60N42 530i

Hi Everyone,

Been reading a ton of information on your sites including reading the What to look for when buying an E60 article

I have the opportunity to buy one of the following cars:

Either a
2005 530i E60 with the M54 engine with 52500miles

vs

2007 530i E60 with the N52 engine with 100089 miles on it. This car just recently had the Electric water pump go, did not overheat and was towed. and it has not been repaired hence I can buy it a t a really good price and DIY the repairs. The owner is fed up.

In regards to service records, there are none available as both have been serviced by "indy". Both cars are also on their 2nd owners.

Money aside, On the face of it it would seem that the 2005 would be the way to go, given the mileage on it is lower. The 2007 would be at the point of needing more service (control arms etc).

On the other hand, the 2007 is the newer more powerful engine.

So folks since i have no formal knowledge of the two engine types or any other really important difference between the them what do you say?

Thanks in advance..

The 07 was a total dud. Completely falling apart, no care given by the current owner.
