The E60 does look aggressive. However, that is what attracted me to the design in the first place.

But the E60 is far from ugly. I am sure the members who upgraded from the E39 will also testify to this.

IMHO there're just some very envious people out there.

I upgraded from an E39 and beg to differ. On the exterior, the E60 is a "bold" statement, away from known norms. The fierce looking headlamps were the first feature to win my heart

I guess, when E39 owners say the E60 is ugly, they would more likely than not point at the interior. IMHO, the dash layout on the E39 is better than that on the E60 I like the "curve to you" design that seemed to indicate that it is very much the driver's car.

I missed the aircon rocker switches and the digital readout, whereas those on the E60's, I mean the plasticky knobs for the a/c controls looked so cheap and toy like. Because the dash is straight, you wouldn't be able to see what's hidden behind the knobs

It's actually a pretty common occurence anytime a car is radically redesigned for owners of the old car to start justifying why it's better to have the old model than the new one.

It's human nature to be threatened in that scenario when you have a car you are proud of and all of a sudden it's outdated.

And the poster that suggested some of those E39 owners are insecure because they can't afford the new cars probably holds some truth as well.

It's probably more appropriate to empathize with (if not pity) them instead of taking offense to the comments.

I too converted from an E39 to E60! The E39 was a great car for its time and still is. But some people cannot afford the upgrade to an E60 and they talk bad about it. Its the keeping up with the Jones's syndrom most likely

Quite possible, but if they own an E39 and can't afford to upgrade it probably has alot to do with what makes up their honest opinion.

I loved my E39 more than any previous BMW I'd owned.
I now love my E60 more than any other BMW I've owned!!!

The E39 was a superb car, but the bottom line is the E60 is better!

I liked the e60 from the first spy pic. The e39 is a great looking car but I have never liked the rear end of the non M models. The only thing I don't like about the new 5er sport models is the Active Steering. Our 4 8 has the 'Engine-speed-sensitive power steering' which is not active steering but its similar and is kinda weird feeling to me. I LOVE the way the e39 handles. After 3 years I think I have finally gotten drifting down to an art That being said as soon as they drop the AS from the sport package I will be all over the e60. While classic, maybe, the e39 looks outdated and IMO the e60 is the best looking sedan available in any price range..but as usual..for me at least...you've got to get the sport package or put on some decent looking after market wheels.
