just wondering is it possible to rebuild the turbos in these? cuz i've heard they got some electronics in the them and cant be rebalanced? meaning new one is only way to go?

A turbo is a turbo. I don't see why they have some electronics associated with the bearings. Maybe sensor for oil pressure or boost sensor or wastegate control but either way i doubt rebuilding the turbo will affect any of these.

They can be rebuilt, if they are not too trashed.

On the 530 it cant be rebuilt becasue it is a Garrett VNT turbo and Garrett do not condone the rebuilding of these due to the variable cone. They do not sell parts for these turbos either due to this and no one...not even BMW are authorised to repair these.

I had mine repalced about 6 month ago at a cost of £1700.
