Hey guys looking at picking up my first e60 soon. The goal for this car will be a mid-high 11 sec FBO daily driver. I think that puts me squarely in the mix for a 535i. So my question is, other than the obvious 2010 m-sport, is there anything else I should be looking for? anything to avoid with the stated goal in mind? Obviously sport trans is tops on the list, sport package, etc. But anything else I should avoid? Lemme know guys! Thanks!
My other thought was an M5 but I'm not that rich lol. I could buy the car easily but mods and maintenance are just too costly.

Any LCI ('08-'10) will do if you're after modding FBO. Sport can be had in any of these.
For all the gloom and doom about endless problems, I've had mine for 5 years and have had zero actual failures. Yes, I've walnut blasted, water pump, thermostat and plugs, but aside from wear items like brakes and tension arms nothing. Nearly 200,000km.

Nothing really to avoid - just being aware of the maintenance items that cause people to put these cars on the market because they won't pay dealer rates to fix them.
If you are going to DIY your mods and repairs then really just want to try and confirm when things like the water pump was replaced, if the car got in on any of the injector/hpfp recalls.
You will have a valve cover leak, oil pan gasket leak, and an oil filter housing leak.
Be sure you check the trunk under the spare tire area for evidence of water in case they allowed their sunroof seal to leak and never replaced it.
