My Ride: 2005 545i born July 13, 2005, Jet Black with Black Dakota leather interior, 6 speed manual transmission, with sports package, premium sound package, cold weather package and satellite prep...persistence overcomes resistence!
Thanks to all - it is great to see (and feel) the enthusiasm - while a couple say the majority of posters are the complainers, I tend to see (most of) them as seeking and trading knowledge - I have gained much from others issues (read complaints if you like)!
More impressions at 39 miles:
-- wow, wow, wow - I can't believe how smooth the car is for a V8;
-- I notice that the braking power on downshifts is not as great as the 530 - there is probably a technical reason for this due to the larger hp or torque??;
-- I also notice that the clutch engages later, almost as the pedal is all the way out - this leads to having to high revs as I disengage the clutch - just need to adjust to this;
-- I can't believe how fast this car is - one big difference (and bear in mind I am going easy and adhering to the breakin guidelines - nothing over 4500 rpm) is that when I shift from one gear to another, I can continue to accelerate without having to have it at high rpms - with the 530, in order to keep it lively, I needed to be above 3000 (ideally 4000) rpms - with this car, I can swith to the next geart at 2000 rpm and still find all the power I need - amazing - did someone say the felt like a 16 year old...well, I just popped in an old Aerosmith CD...highschool all over!
-- the handling is tremendous, I wanted to try things out a bit and took a normally 25mph curve on a single lane at 50 - unbelievable...flat, on rails;
-- the variable assisted steering is tricky, as you slow in curves, the car oversteers...something to get used to;

That sounds like CDV (Clutch Delay Valve)... does the 530 have the CDV? If not then that might be what you're experiencing...

Live in the middle of the USA...
By the way, don't know when they started this, but those black plastic pieces that are in the rear bumper...the ones that were either that or red reflectors...well they are no longer black plastic (at least on the 545 with the options above)...they are now (don't know why they weren't before) painting those pieces to match the body color.
best,
edl
