No. The E39 is by far the best BMW 5 series. The E34 M5 is a close second however.

Sweet!

Apologies to the OP.

See it eveyday when I walk by the garage! and thanks btw.
I just picked up an 05 545i, to replace my 98 A6, going to pick it up shortly in NV, guess I'll see which is more reliable shortly. My e39 has been pampered maintenance wise but in 2 years and 30 miles no issues to speak of let's see how the 545 does.
I'd agree with the e39 M5 as the best and e34 very close second also.

+1 on the appologies to the op

I'd say, with the proper maintenance the E60 can be more reliable.

My heart's with the E39.

In terms of reliability, my E60 550 has suffered from considerably more problems than my E39 540 did. Both were leased as new so I am referring to problems when the cars were new or with low miles.

Ya I guess its really luck of the draw... some people report many problems while some have minor and some have none... My moms mercedes has been flawless (*knock on wood 545 times*) yet a friends, same model, a year newer has been fairly troublesome...

yes and it also depends on the 'customer' what is a problem?? my wife would run to dealer if the car said rear tail light out... I only think you have a 'problem car' if your stuck on the side of the road and must call a tow truck

I do think that some of it is luck of the draw. Other than the starter failing, most of my problems with the 550 have been minor ones. I was so fortunate with the E39 540. It had no problems and was basically flawless.

I agree with the poster as to what is a problem varies alot among drivers... In any event, (and knock on wood), I have 27K on an '08 550i and have not had ONE PROBLEM since delivery. Lots of electronics, of course, so one has to wonder down the road at 127K or whatever, but I think this is awesome performance out of the box.

My 545 has been to the dealer 5 times in the past 12 months will fairly significant issues. Last month had a clutch and flywheel replaced and Dynamic Drive computer replaced. 62,000 miles. Hope I am done for awhile. Seriously seems like every other month something breaks.
