Default E60 Rear Window Seal: "Comfort Glass" Option?

I'm looking to replace the main rear seal on the rear window of my E60 545i. This seal covers the left, top, and right sides of the rear windshield. There are many DIYs out there to explain the replacement process, but not for selecting the correct part.

Real OEM provides two part numbers, the standard one is 51317027916, and the second one is 51317057415 for "Comfort Glass" or "Protective Glazing." ECS Tuning seems to indicate the special comfort glass is uncommon.

Does anyone know how to figure out which glass one has?

Thank you

They are correct. 99.9 % is standard. You are in the states so you will have standard. Comfort would have dark tent on the rear and rear passenger window. It was not an option for us. I replaced mine years back and got it off FCP because they have a lifetime warranty.

When replacing that back window seal, there is another part most people don't replace and you'll wish you did when you look at its condition.

Its this one 51317115412

Makes sense, thank you.

I did look at that. It's in much better shape, presumably because it's so much better protected from the sun. I will be doing the front windshield top seal, which is just as bad as the three-part rear seal.

You northerners are lucky. Down here in the south, the heat destroys these rubber seals (along with other rubber) in just 6 years. I've replaced the rear about 5 years ago, and it is ready for it's second replacement (third seal).

Yes, us Northerners are lucky.

We'll trade you the winter road salt that destroys our undercarriages for your summer heat and sun that destroys your rear window seals.

I'll also throw in the winter freezing door locks and freezing gas door flap lock for free.

Confirmed with BMW of San Francisco that I do not have the safety glass. They are on Amazon and had the best price online that I could find for both the front windshield top seal and rear windshield 3-side seal.

Meh, I'm from the GWN and we have it worse than that. My E60 has fared very well - zero rust and all the window seals are like new.
