So there has been an ongoing discussion about rear foglights on different BMW boards.
The E90 guys just have to replace the switch and it is already wired and ready to go.
I can not seem to find any info about rear fog lights for an e60 or e61.
Does anyone know what the part number is for the switch and are the cars already wired for this?
Living in CO, it would be a good thing to have when the snow starts blowing in and everyone in thier SUV's still think they can do 80 on the interstate.
My wife's Volvo had them and they worked great.
TIA
I will not be driving around with them on for the "bling" factor like many in the Audi and MB world do

There was a "rear" fog light on my '03 Volvo S-60 which was basically just the left rear yellow turn signal indicator being brighter and always on (when engaged). Could have definitely used something like that this AM on my E60 as it was thick as pea soup in SE Michigan with temps going from freezing to the mid 50's in a matter of hours.

Most of the idiots in my area with Volvo's, Audi's & MB's don't even know that their rear fog is on and when to use it. People turn leave it on in perfectly good summer weather!
We just drove through some horrific snowy weather with wind gusts over 40 mph and a rear fog light would have been a great safety measure.

Hi
Please post a picture of your light-switch , the rear foglight on/off function should be on the switch , if not , I will try to "investgate" in this issue for you , find a part no. etc. thereto it is a standard feture here in Denmark/Europ, and I think it must be either in the light-switch the difference is or a coding question of the LM , perhaps you will have to replace the light-switch and get the LM ( light modul ) re-coded in order to get it work , we can't have you gay's driving a-round with a a.. thats is a safty risc

The e60s are "wired" for rear fogs... the adaptive brake lights on North American models use the same inner brake light bulbs that are used for the rear fogs on Euro models. These lights are controlled by the Light Control Module. HOWEVER, unlike e90s, just replacing your light switch with a Euro-version switch does not enable the rear fogs. Trust me, I found out the hard way. I believe BenAnd is right... you will need to have your LCM recoded to respond to a Euro switch with rear fog control instead of having adaptive brake lights. Good luck!

in the UK, there not just "fog" lights there inclement weather lights, they are for use in any form of bad weather so as to aid visability.
the high way code advises using them when visability is greatly reduced.
they are bad though when left on in normal light because they can be very dazzaling.
stateside, do you also have the lights on indicator in the dash clocks? for fogs?
