My Ride: BMW 525D M-Sport
Hello all,
I currently own a 2006 (November) BMW 525D M-Sport, fully loaded (has a lot of extras)
I've got a offer of ?28,500 ($55,500)
I have to admit I really love the car, looks stunning and drives amazing to! how ever with the face lift models out and new 5 Series range coming out in 2010 I believe, will the prices of the 5 Series drop a lot?
I want to sell the car get a cheap BMW again, save up and when the new models come out get a 530i (or if not a Petrol model but twin Turbo) and keep that for my 15 year old son, which I will pass on to and he can do some modding on it.
If I do Sell the Car what Model BMW would you recommend me thats cheap but also sporty a bit.
Come on guys and girls please help me, be my financial advisor kind of
Many thanks in Advance,
MB

It will soon be a good time to buy!
not knowing how much you spent on the car with extras ist hard to say how good that quote is, but it looks high. Thats only a couple ?K less than a new 520d Msport - the next model down. But if you added ?15k of extras.......
2010 is a long way away and usually any new car doesnt attract discounts - so you might end up paying more than you want for the new one - which could be an argument for selling you car now at a good price!
But do you really want to drive a worse car for 2 years? Your son also might have other ideas on what he wants for a first car, and inusrance for a 17 year old on a bmw is going to be STEEP in the uk. For my 18 year old, i was getting ?8k quotes to add him to my 520d insurance!

Your car coming out of warranty in 1.5 years (nov 2009) would be something that would affect the residual price of your car much sooner than the impact of a new model in 2010.
I guess my advice is that if you are going to be concerned about things which affect residuals, then be concerned about the correct (soonest impacting) things so that you can make informed decisions.
I believe that the decision to trade in a car is completely mathematical, what is the cost of the trade, how much do you lose etc etc
Good luck

I have a different question for you UK e60ers:
everytime i look on the web i see that almost all e60s have M Kit installed. Is that true that literally 90% of all e60s have m kit?

I was speaking to a BMW sales guy ,and he told me the UK has a totally diffrent profile for buying BMW cars than any other country. Here in the UK if BMW didnt offer an "M Sport" option ( body kit , wheels and other goodies) on EVERY model and enigine size almost without exception, then sales would be hit.
I think UK buyers may be more aesthetically conscious than other nations.

Perhaps not 90% but a higher percentage than probably any other country.

Do you think this was the case with the previous generation 5er as well?

Yes. IMHO the standard e39 was a horrible looking car ( had some ugly 16" wheels too). Good job they brought out the sport version with the M-tech kit.
