I guess another way to put this torque Vs. horses

BLooD Apr 18, 2011 08:57 AM

Pulling power all the way, much more fun that raw kinetic energy.

Diesel every time loads of power & torque but you dont have to run for the pumps every 5mins?

There's no way diesel can win this poll when it's not for sale in the states and this is mostly (at least 90%) U.S. members.

The sad thing is, if any of them drove a 530d or 535d they'd be amazed and probably want one. It really was a coin flip for me whether I went for a 535d or the 545i. One thing that came into it was the mileage. All the diesels were high mileage (or should that be kilometreage  ). Plus I don't do enough driving to really gain that much from the mpg figures anyway - I only fill up once every 3 weeks or so. Yeah that'd be once every 6 weeks with a diesel, but the gas guzzling V8 was probably cheaper because the dealerships have trouble offloading them in this economy.

You cant beat the torque and economy of the diesel however the petrol V8's and V10 sound amazing.

It does seem that our American friends do have much bigger engines, (petrol), than we in the UK have. You don't see many 540's+ beasts on the roads here. We have many baby 4 pot 520D's, quite a few 530D's, (being chased by Audi's ), and some 535D's floating about. Petrol E60's tend to be the 3.0 litre and below with quite a few M5's scaring other motorists; yet the Audi drivers in their 4-pots still try chasing them! When will they learn?

Another pivital factor for us in the UK is the crazy price of fuel; today I filled up at 142.9 pence a litre for diesel! Last year I remember paying about 100 pence and yet I was still :fcuk:

With regards to the oil burning diesels, the new F10 535D sprints to 62 MPH in 5.7 seconds; thats just 1 second more than a stock 997 911 C2 will take, yet delivering circa 40mpg! Amazing witchcraft. Hat's off to you BMW engineers.

Diesel is on top at the moment!

Shlooky Apr 18, 2011 06:44 PM

Diesel in Europe, gasoline in North America. This is because the Diesel fuel in Canada and the US has sulphur in it causing it to smoke a lot, where in Europe the Diesel fuel is much cleaner and would be recommended.
