E60/N52 idle shaking

Hi everyone,

2006 BMW 525i E60/N52

A few minutes after warm up, and then anytime I am at a stop while driving, my idle drops from ~900rpm to ~600rpm and the car shakes as if it will lead to a stall. But it never stalls, it just hangs there and vibrates loudly the whole car. I purchased this car used with 170k miles and have been fixing it up and chasing this issue.

Here are the repairs I have completed with original BMW parts:

New air filter

New spark plugs

New ignition coils

New fuel injectors

Replaced valve cover gasket, eccentric shaft actuator seal, shaft sensor gasket

Replaced Air intake manifold gaskets

Replaced throttle body gasket

Replaced crankcase vent valve and its hoses

Cleaned Vanos solenoids (each tested 13-14 ohms- which seems fine), rotated them, and replaced their seals.

Cleaned MAF sensor (no change when disconnected)

You can see my line of thinking with trying to find the issue think spark plugs and coils were a good first step and then thinking there was a vacuum leak. The car certainly runs better with these repairs and it was time given the mileage, but the issue remains. There is also no change to the idle when the AC is on.

-This is my first post after scouring forums and not finding someone with the exact same issue. And there are a lot of idling topics out there, but they all end after doing the repairs I've done. At least as far as I could find. As this is my first post, I apologize if I've left out any pertinent information or have missed a basic etiquette.

Here is a link to a video I made of the problem in action. You can see the idle drops about 1 minute after start up:

Yeah I had that same problem and it was due to the crank case vent hose. But it seems you've since taken care of that though. I also read it could be the ICV.

Thank you for the suggestion, donpb. However, my engine doesn't have an idle control valve or a disa valve (which I've heard others suggest).

Have an indy BMW Mechanic diagnose it for you.

Do a smoke test to see if there any leaks. Shouldn't be since you've done it all. Do you have INPA? The car should be telling you something. Did you do a value reset on the engine? What type of fuel are you using and never test your car with the fuel light on?

I'm thinking it could be a clogged injector. You're not getting a cel but something is going on.

I don't see the problem? Cold idles ~1000rpm then takes a minute to settle at ~600rpm.
