I was in Bangalore use a little while ago and saw a number of e60's (mostly 530d/535d) ... perhaps you staying in the wrong hotels
The traffic is mad, but considering all the cars, etc on the road, they drive very well (kind of like driving in Rome).

BMW is coming to India this year. In fact the UK edition of the Spring BMW complimentary magazine had an article on this. It was actually for a X5 tour of the country but touched on other topics too. Most of the BMWs seen today are imports and very expensive. The insurance system is not very good so most people will not buy expensive cars especially since you will have a dent in it almost the first day you drive it in rush hour (which last about 12 hours). Smaller less expensive cars are very popular. Plus BMW cannot be serviced by your local corner mechanic.

BMW in Bangladesh sold 450 vehicles in 3 years, considering avg price of the vehicles are $100 grand and highest selling car is the 7 series, X5 and the 5 series, not bad for such a poor country like us. But there is also 140 million people in our country so mere few BMWs wont look any different in the middle of 99% Corolla's in white... btw its is hectic to drive in the day time so you see M5's and 911 Turbo's and Cayenne Turbos , RX8's, 350z etc all coming out at 11:30 Pm in my city (Dhaka, Bangladesh)

There is a showroom in the capital as well, Islamabad.
Beamers are real common in Pakistan, you can drive about an hour in the city and you will see atleast 4-5.
Basically 7, 5's and X5's

same deal here the 7, 5 and the X5 sell more. I guess its because the difference in that range dont really matter to a lot of ppl, people who buy at $130 grand can buy the same at $200 not a very wide market, its the same people/family buying the new cars.....
