Help ! Having scrimped and saved to get my mucky paws on my dream car, I now find that the standard fit stereo leaves a lot to be desired. According to two UK dealers, I can't upgrade the sound system once the car's been built - so both the BMW sound upgrades appear to be unavailable to me.

So - does anyone, preferably in the UK, have any suggestions what I can do ? I have scoured the web looking for custom fit speakers (I think all it needs, really, is a decent set of speakers and a decent amp), but can't find any "custom fit" speakers for the E60.

Any info would be REALLY useful.

For a 35 grand car, its a shock to discover that the sound system, which is adequate, actually doesn't sound as good as the one fitted to my previous car, a Golf GTi.

And whilst I'm on a whinge - WHY can't I change CD's in the multiplayer without going through the iDrive gadget ?? And WHY, when I lock the car, can't the damned thing fold the mirrors ???

I think you can program one of the buttons on the steering wheel to change for you.

There has been a discussion about upgrading the soundsystem. If you do a search you should find it. This discussion mainly was about adding a subwoofer but should provide valuable info for you.

If you have the electrical foldable mirrors you only have to push a button to fold them in. My father in laws Mercedes E-Class does it automatically. I don't know if this is possible for the E60.

Congrats with your new car!!

James: The steering wheel button changes the sound source; what I meant is that if I'm playing, say CD 3 in the multi-player and I want to play CD 5, I have to use the iDrive controls. Or wait until CD3 and CD4 have finished ..

cloz: Not sure if you have voice control (should come with Nav Pro), but if so, just hit the voice button, wait for the beep, and say "cd 5". Job done. If no voice control, and the idrive is displaying that circle of tracks thing, just push 'up' on the iDrive knob to get to which cd you're selection, turn right two clicks and push down. Once the sequence is memorized, it will be quite easy to do without taking your eyes off the road. Voice control is be best, however, imsho.

Sorry Cloz. I don't have the changer, so I thought it would have allowed you to move to the next CD if you wanted. My bad.

As mentioned above you can hit the voice button, wait for the beep and then say the cd you want, yoou can even add a title number. CD 6 title 3... job done.
When you lock the car and press AND hold down the lock button, the windows close, the sunroof closes and after that you're mirrors fold. If not, have your dealer activate trhis feature, what he can do. This feature seems to be deactivated by BMW and needs to get activated by the dealer...

If it doesn't work have your dealer activate the feature.
Mine still don't fold, but the enxt time I stop at my dealer they will fix this, and then I can fold them by holding the button pressed...

There are no voice commands available in the UK yet - except the phone subset if you have the BMW phone.

Folding mirrors are a cost option and incluse the auto-dimming rear view mirror (although you can have that on it's own as an option too)
