I've actually had another one in mind... whether there is a method to record of what speeds we were going at...? I was on a freeway and the cops pulled me over telling me that I was speeding with an alleged number but I was 100% sure that the figures I was reading from my HUD was lower.

What interfaces do you need to connect to the car? Is it just a case of a OBD - Serial? I'd be quite interested to have a play around with mine (Car is production date 12/06, HUD was replaced last year so unit is a 2009 one).

Ok...I was playing with the menu and I am not sure what are the gains are by inlocking unless iam missing simething in here. Is there anyone here that has added / enhanced anything to the HUD menu with only unlocking and changing the settings in the HUD menu?

I didn't re-read this whole thread so might be repeating something.


I got this working on my 07 and 08 and then switched it back. Nothing of value in there because the RPM scale doesn't match. Then again, I never tried making the scale work correctly which mught be possible with some nettodat coding.

Hi Guys, i have the same problem mview 30 seconds with HUD M SPORT.

So i connected to hud ecu for diagnostics and after the 30 seconds error A507 wich means:

Message with M Status parameter from DDE to HUD not received.

The error has detail about the missing CAN message, ID 0x399.

I pulled out some M5 log from other forum and the user described the log with 2 pulls with MDRIVE OFF and 2 pulls with MDRIVE ON.

I found the corresponding CAN messages over the log:

I will try to connect to car can bus with USB-TIN to try to send some CAN commands to HUD with detail about M_DRIVE status, if it works i will prepare some arduino with can bus shield to inject this message when MDRIVE is ON.

I think this will solve our issue.
The main problem is the engine DDE on pre lci does not send this information to CAN BUS.

Possible solutions :

- Emulator to send this command to canbus reading the status of MDRIVE from another place in my case will be SPORT button.
- Someone who can enable this on DDE via coding or remap switch but i don't belive it's possible;
- Someone who can change this error timmer on HUD firmware;

I need to order the can bus shield and the usb can sniffer to send the message manually, i will bet on doing a CAN BUS basic emulator with ARDUINO so i can play also with other things.

Also got CIC and COMBOX with HUD NAV full working using a normal pre-lci diesel cluster from 2005 and proper manual coding of CIC, KOMBI, HUD.

Navigation is working awesome with colors on HUD, also Speed Limit on hud.

Also the mview has all detail of gear / speed / rpm and i already fixed the RPM for diesel with a solution from the forum.

Hope that someone has a better idea to solve the 30 seconds problem. cause i will wait for my can stuff..

I have an 04 545i SMG and I never saw anything until I used my 2nd key. The rpm gauge was three colors, green, yellow & red. It moved when I revved the engine but then vanished after 30 seconds. Has anyone figured this out?
