Hi Folks,

Its been a long time since i posted. I hope everyone is well.

This forum and many others have done the auto transmission problem time and time again. The problem where when the vehicle reaches 1500 to 2000 rpm the rev needle goes wild and the car certainly doesn't run very smooth.

For some its the maf, vacum pipes, new software update, re adaption and many more.

As i have said on previous posts, i run my cars until they die so my cars run higher than average miles. My current 535d has done 228,000 miles. yes miles not kilometres.

I have had this problem with my last 535d and also have been having the problem with my current model for at least a year now. I always suspected the gearbox but didn't want to pay the £2500 plus for a new box. As things got worse i started
to run it in steptronic mode. As long as the revs were above 2000rpm you didn't notice it. Boy was i using fuel though. Things were starting to get worse though.

Now i have dealt with all the stealers and more than a few specialists, but by sheer luck i stumbled upon a bmw specialist whilst looking for someone to replace a heater fan. not many people want to take the full dash out of an e60. This guy did.
And he left me a great job. Just whilst chatting about the above issue he said he would take it for a road test.

He said he was 100 percent sure it was the torque convertor. He advised we drop the box, recondition the torque convertor, new oil, and oil pan/filter.

The job was booked in for two weeks later. He sent the torque convertor away to be reconditioned but it was beyond help. We had to get a new one. Bad luck it would be more expensive but good luck we knew it was the problem.

Got my car back yesterday and i still have a smile on my face. I have what seems like a new car. The roughness has gone and it is so smooth. 80 mph and its sitting at 1700 rpm.

I have a brand new torque convertor, oil change and filter. Total cost £1000. Now some garages charge nearly £400 for a gearbox service. I wish i had got it done months ago.

Now some auto box specialists would have you change the whole box, but the guy showed me my old pan with the two magnets on it and there was not a single bit of metal on them. Not bad for a box that had its first oil change at 228,000 miles!

Anyway, i consider Stewart to be the best bmw independent i have ever came across and i have had 6 bmws clocking up well over 1,000,000,000 miles!

Stewart will take on all the big engine jobs that nobody else would tackle. And anything else for that matter.

So if you are in central scotland give Stewart a go. m3 motor company bathgate.

cheers
