Hi Guys,
First of all I will appreciate your quick answers because I am stuck in city and I have to go back to my home city. I have 2004/8 E60 suddenly the engine fan stopped . So I uninstall the fan from the car and I got another used fan. My fan part no is 17 42 7 526 824 however I got more than four fans with the part number 17 42 7 543 282. The problem is that the fans does it work even they have the same pin and plug as mine any ideas ? Do I have to play with codings or anything else so I make it work. As far I as know they should work. Thanks again

I would test it to be sure, but if the model is the same (for example you have a 530 and the fan came from another 530) then you should have no problem. BMW is CONSTANTLY changing part #'s for certain things. I found this out when I needed to replace my CCC (iDrive), my car "required" a specific part #, however none could be found since CCC was no longer made. I ended up getting a used unit from a 2007 5 series, got it coded and it works without a single issue despite a difference in part #'s.

If you are driving at motorway speeds, and there aren't many steep inclines, you can easily drive without a working fan ? on the motorway, just air flow is enough to keep the car radiator cool.
Keep an eye your your coolant temperature at all times via the secret OBC computer. Obviously do this at your own risk though! (If it was me in your position, and the drive home doesn't have many hills, I would drive home without the fan)

As long as it is the same part number or an upgraded part number from another E60 within your year (here in U.S. would be 04/05 - after than engines changed and probably fans too) then there shouldn't be a problem. The fan usually does not turn on right away until the car is at normal operating temps and there is no forced air. Check fuses first. Always do that first. It's so simple and cost nothing. After that let the car run and see if it kicks on. If you have BMW diagnosis equipment then you can test the fan by itself.

Check this out:
http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E6...an_shroud_fan/
On one hand, this would seem to indicate that the two fans you have are at least partially interchangeable. You original fan is less powerful at 400W and the replacement you are using is more powerful at 600W. It could be that the fuse for the fan is different between the 400W and 600W version.
But, look down on the page at item 5 where it says "Pin terminal" and "Socket housing". That specifically references the 17 42 7 543 282 fan, but says nothing about the original one. This makes me wonder if something else may be incompatible,
Since you have already plugged this stuff together at least once, do check the fan fuse to see if it is blown. Could be that simple.
I checked the fan in my US Model 2006 530xi using that same website. It is the 17 42 7 543 282 fan or 17 42 7 524 881 -- both are 600W. I went to the fuse guide in my car's trunk lid and it says the fan fuse is 60 Amp.

First of all I want to thank you all, I don't know for some reason I don't receive email notification when you add reply (I've to check). I have checked the fuse in the glove box it's 60A and it's working (not blown). I have checked the car with DIS and it doesn't gives any errors however when I unplug the fan and read the faults it gives an error which mean the connection to the fan is good. The strange thing is that I've tried many fans with the same part number but still the same. I want to add one thing, in the DIS it says my "thermostat positive is short circuit" which I understand there is something wrong with my thermostat however I had that problem for a long time and my previous fan was working just fine. And regarding my travel I am living in a place which is almost 37C with all mountains between the city which I am sure I cannot go home without fan. Thanks again looking forward to receive your advice

Thanks a lot guys for your cooperation. You never gonna believe it neither do I, all the fans that I check (more that 11 fans) were defective and I went to another guy and checked the same type of fan and it works just great. Thanks again

All the 11 fans you got were defective? I am sure you are in one of the hot places. where is this place exactly?
