E60/E61 Brake pads
Hi all,
I have just replaced the front pads on my E61 and removed old worn pagid patten pads and replaced with genuine BMW pads, although the BMW ones do not have a spring prong fixed to the back on the opposite side to the caliper piston. Are there two types? I have searched ebay and all BMW ones listed seem to be the same...... I have fitted the pads and seem fine, but concerned there may be two types which are not interchangeable. Thanks in advance. |
No there is only one type that goes on the car. You have the right ones. It is not a spring it is there to hold the pad in place.

I ran into this as well when I replaced my pads with ceramic ones. Although in my case, the pad metal retaining tabs meant to fit inside the caliper piston were a different size than my stock pad's tabs. So I ended up doing some transplant "surgery" and removing the stock retaining tabs and mounting them on the ceramic pads.
Funny thing is, I did some research and it appears the pads I purchased may have been meant for Euro-spec E60's. If the pad fits correctly within the caliper mounts and it is the exact same dimensions as the old pad, you should be fine. |
