I have a 2004 BMW e60 525I, it was in a accident and now it's repaired, my problem is the box where the DME goes was cracked and water got into the DME and now the car doesn't want to start. So i called the dealer and they told me that a new DME is $1200. I went online and found one for $400 same year make and model, it came with a DME, key and a mobilizer so i installed it and noticed the mileage were different mine has 54k miles and new 1 has 86k miles and it doesn't want to start, i got it to unlock the door but i can't get it to start the car. Nothing else was wrong what the car, so I was wondering if some one knows what tool i can buy to fix it, I seen plenty on eBay that says it can correct mileage and program the DME. My problem is I don't know which one to buy. If anyone can send me a link or help me out with this problem, All help will be appreciated

I think it'll need programming to make it work...

 

i know I'm going to need it programmed, but I'm trying to do it myself. I just don't want to buy the wrong product on eBay

 

Try posting in the DIY forum or on bmwcoding.com. I've coded several simple things on my car, like disabling bulb checks in the angel eyes and enabling the digital speedometer, but programming the DME probably requires a completely different set of tools and techniques.
