The average price in the U.S. last week for a gallon of diesel fuel was $3.027. Premium gasoline in "reformulalted" areas (such as here in Chicago) was at $3.168. So diesel is typically a few cents lower for us.
Bring on the diesels BMW, please.

Forget mpg and just enjoy the driving experience. Since getting my E60 I do not really think about mpg. Depreciation is much more costly

My 530D is only doing 550 miles on a tank and I have been a bit heavy with it since the re-map. I was doing on some trips in my previous Audi A4 1.9 Tdi (130) 59 mpg but it was so boring.

:
BP "Ultimate" Diesel is by far the best - Shell would drop about 80 miles on a tank
Bur BP costs more
Supermarket fiel is the worst

So you've been getting about 880 kilometers which is what ronald_adi said he gets under normal driving.

What about the Rpm? Dont you just love when the needle swing past 7000 rpm ?
You can never have that in a diesel and that's why Im buying a proper gas-engine next time.

Haha actually not. i like the fact that my car accelerates without the needle moving that much. i like the fact that i can use my 1st turbo in low revs - under 2500revs to do normal overtaking without having let the engine go through much effort. the engine is practically chillin in there as i torque my way through town.
When i wanna do some serious acceleration then of course i use the 2nd turbo and push above 2500 to 4500,... still rather low on revs compared to 7000 and thats what i like. Low consumption as a result and little fuss !

My Ride: 530i 6 speed
To me its the torque. I just got back from good old Germany where I had a 1.9 L Diesel van (the big one, Multivan, drag factor like a barn...) from VW. That thing pulled much better from low rpms than my 530i. And I got 7.9 l/100 km (~ 30 US mpg) blasting on ther Autobahn with ~ 160 km/h.
I would buy a BMW Diesel immediately. Right now, BMW NA, please.......

The Audi R10 is a great example of the potential of the diesel engine.
I have a diesel in my truck and you couldn't pay me to go back to gasoline.

Another reason that the diesel is popular in the UK is the carbon emission. At only 159g/km, this is far less than even small petrol cars, and as such I feel good knowing that my environmental impact is far less than most other cars on the road. In the UK, company car tax is based on carbon emission, not milage, and as such
1. I am being realtively green to the environment
2. I am paying low company car tax (19%)
3. I get excellent milage when I'm on my personal time and paying for the petrol myself.
The day of the diesel will come to the US in due course.
