E60 Battery Registration
Hello All,
So I put in a 900cca AGM battery and I was wondering if I need to register it? I hear I do...now I have an odb scanner, can I do it myself? |
Depends on what was in there before. If you matched the old specs, no need to register. If type of battery or cca changed, you do.
|
The CCA on the oem was 850 and I went up to 900. Still AGM. Wish I could do it myself with just my odb but doesn't seem there's a diy without carly, etc.
|
If you changed the CCA it must be registered and reset. You have to use icarly or combination of inpa and coding software.

when they registered my new battery, with ISTA-P I believe, on that list you, ISTA->Service functions->Body->Voltage supply->Register_battery replacement->Test plan, you can only choose between normal acid batteries (110Ah) and AGM batteries (80Ah or 90Ah), at least on my vehicle.
so I doubt that cold cranking voltage would be factored in the registration process whatsoever, unless you are registering an OE BMW battery perhaps. |
You are correct it's been 6 years since I've done mine. I have 3 American cars which make me deal with CCA more than Ah. I totally forgot about it. Either way you must register the new battery and do a reset
|
You should register your battery anytime you change it. That's easy to do with a variety of apps, I personally did it with ISTA/D. Inside ISTA it will list the mileage of up to (I believe) the last 4 battery changes. The only time you need to do something more complex is if you change from traditional to AGM, or if you change the battery capacity. It still would like you to register the battery so that it knows the age of the battery as I assume its charge characteristics change over time. I changed mine to an AGM so I had to use NCS Expert since I don't have ISTA/P to change my VO for the new battery type and capacity.

Messaged my guy to see how much he would charge for the registration. It seems like a 5 minute job with the appropriate tools so I'm not expecting paying more than 25$ Canadian. Thanks for the replies folks.
