E60 Alpina? Crashed?

Hey I just happen to be driving to Boca earlier this week and as I was on I-95 and came upon a crash near boynton and delray beach.
I saw what looked like a blue e60, sweet as hell looking, instead of it saying 535i, 545i,etc.. it said Alpina. And that was smashed into the wall closest to the HOV lane. The other car was right near the exit ramp.
Felt bad for whoever it was, because it was one of the nicest BMW's I had ever seen.. I have since googled what an Alpina is and all i can saw is OMG..
here is what the car shoulda looked like.

Alpina B5's are really nice, what do they base their engines off of? The M5 engine or the V8?
