E60 550i wont start
#1
HI Everyone
The E60 550i just refused to start this afternoon, (was perfect in the morning)
everything electronic seems to light up, comfort access works, does not sound like a dead battery
Possible IBS failure? starter? Fuel Pump?
Any idea before i bring it to my indy shop?
Thanks in advance for all your input

A failed IBS would allow _some_ lights on the dash to light up but you would have a no-crank condition. When pressing 'start' the engine never tries to crank nor do most of the normal electronics fire up correctly.
A failed fuel pump would still allow the vehicle to crank but it would not say running.
A bad starter usually can be heard. The solenoid will click but the motor won't spin.
I'd try disconnecting the IBS sensor first. It's connected to the positive side of the battery and is very small gauge. There will be an easy and obvious connector to remove.
When my IBS failed the vehicle would not even try to crank and most of the electronics (and the lights on the dash) would not start correctly either. I've been driving 2+ years with a bad/dead IBS. If you disconnect your IBS and everything cranks, I'd leave it off.
Fuses? Have you checked all the fuses behind the glove box? What about the ones in the trunk?

Is your car cranking when trying to start it or not? Mine does this occasionally and I'm trying to figure out the cause ...

Low fuel pressure. Clogged filter or failing pump. Turn your music off next time - it'll make hearing the sounds easier.

Thanks for the reply. This isn't my car actually, but another forum member which had the same problem back in the days, unfortunately he never resolved it.
My car does this rarely, most of the times it starts fine, but it's still quite annoying. I had my fuel filter replaced 4 months ago and haven't had issues. This starting up issue started occurring after I had my injectors cleaned

Had my car inspected at another shop a couple weeks ago, the guy there checked all plugs and coils, sprayed some contact spray on the cable connectors and the problem hasn't occurred since then No parts have been changed
