On a note regarding reliability, we pulled my motor last night and did a quick inspection. No leaks and everything looked good except the water pump bearing. My guess is that we used too tight of a belt when putting the small pulley on the supercharger. Here is what a bolt-on N62 looks like btw.

Wow that is amazing and great encouragement for me! How difficult is it to pull the engine out? What kind of clutch and Flywheel are you using? LSD? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I know if I want a SC I need other mods as well and I want a good build. Seeing yours has done so well, what other things did you replace? How many miles has it been since you did this? and Was it worth the money and time? Thank you!!

Engine was easy to pull out. Did it with the help of a couple friends. You can take your time and still do it in a day.

The clutch is a Spec Stage 3+ clutch. It is mounted to a Dinan lightened flywheel.

The LSD is a Quaife.

Ended up replacing other stuff as well, but you really don't have to unless you're looking to get more power out of the car (headers, exhaust, de-cat, intake, killer chiller, pulleys, re-gear, etc).

Was worth the money and time, yes. Have fun and feel free to drop me a line if you have questions. Cheers!

Just spent a great deal of time looking through your threads and found tons of valuable info, thanks again. Your build was amazing! If you don't mind me asking, why did you put up for sell an amazing unique car like that?

no offense whatsoever, i love your car. how can you not love a supercharged 550i

you probably spent over $10k on supercharging, headers and etc

how much power are you putting down? around 400whp? 450whp?

now lets take a 535i and what it would take to get it to 450-500whp,

just JB4 - $500, Dual Cone Intake - $95, backend flash - $175 (cable and all the flashes are free), downpipes $300, meth $500, intercooler $900 and some e85.

thats about $2500 and making over 450whp

and 535i weight about 200lbs less than the 550, its off the front, so 535i would also handle better.

and you dont even have to spend that much to make a 535i fast. There are a bunch of people running 400+whp with just a JB4 and e85

now add $3000 for some RB turbos and u can be in the 500-600whp range.

As has been said in previous threads where people bring up the x35 line, there's something about going down and blazing your own path, rather than following the well paved highway.... or to each his own.

All I was trying to explain is that spending more to supercharge than the car is worth is not something i would do to a 545 now.

West probably got his supercharger a while ago and also probably bought his car new so probably spending $10k for him was easy.

But when someone comes in with a 545i wanting to buy a supercharger for about the same price as the car... I say sell the car and get a 535i and get a jb4 with a couple supporting mods. It's gonna cost about the same as saving the money from supercharging and selling the 545i. You will have the same but a newer face lifted car that will put down the same if not more power.

Only way I can understand if you got a bunch of money and cars and just want to do it for kicks or if you are in different country where cars cost 6 times the price.

But I have been guilty of spending too much money on a car before... I think it's something we all have in common!

In '98 I purchased my fourth MR2, a '92T, for $12K and dumped over $13K into her (performance/engine) and I do not regret one penny. Car guys are not normal and I hope that never changes, salute.
