In my experience the problem will return completely within 60 days.
The admittedly temporary fix in this thread fixed my transmission woes --> http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=40018

Is this issue only in 545s or in the 550s?
I just picked up an 07 550 and my tranny does not feel as to smooth at times....

The issue is with both the 545 and 550 as they use the same tranny. I have also been reading that the 535's are having problems as well.

BMW has contacted me and is still gathering data from my dealer. Will keep you posted.
Was there ever an acceptable outcome or has everyone given up?

I have verified the 2-1 Tip-in code was installed 8 weeks ago. That's when I felt the problem was possibly solved but after around 30 days the transmission was back to the same old 1-2nd gear jerky/hesitation/slam problems. I have 25.04 and it made NO difference to the transmission.
I have not had a slam since I got updated with Progman 24.1 then subsequently updated to 25.01. If you aren't already at least at 24.1, I;d suggest you try it. Some members have continued to have the slam, but some seem to think it's been fixed. I suppose that some cars with various combinations of minor versions of the hardware and software may benefit, others may not. Who knows!!

Still the same problem even after Progman 25 and the 2-1 code.

Some cars just seem to get it worse than others.

I am convinced it is more than just a superficial software issue and that something deeper in the tranny is causing some cars to be 'unfixable'

I am just going to have to live with it and use DS more.

i just had my 04 545 put in service. they updated the software of the transmission and of the idrive system. the slam is completely gone. before my car would lag around at 3000 rpm before shifting. now it will shift at 1800 rpm in the same situation with no lag. it's a much much smoother ride, and i'm loving the 545 again. it gave the car a lot of pep. my service was done at Valencia bmw.

My '05 545 is also currently at the dealer for this same problem. Not sure yet what fix BMW will propose as my dealer sent the error codes to BMWNA for guidance on how to proceed this past Friday. Has anyone had the transmission replaced as a result of this problem?

I have had it with these transmission issues. BMW says its just the way it's been built and can't do anything about it. After 2 years of patience I will see what BMW will do for me but I am also seeking legal advice. After paying 70 thousand dollars for the car, I feel I know way way too much about the interworkings of the trasmission ... and my friends are sick of hearing about it.

Still in the shop as the dealer goes back and forth with BMWNA playing the try this, try that game but nothing seems to be solving the problem. At this stage I am hoping BMW will do the right thing and allow the dealer to replace the transmission. I have directed my SA to this thread and I am not going to be a happy camper if BMW starts playing games with a very bad issue on a $60K+ car with only 35K miles.
