Hi Folks.
I last posted on these forums when I had my first 535d. When I got rid of the car, I really missed it. So yesterday bought myself another one

Well, the problems have started already

I noticed today that I have an intermittent power loss. If I accelerate, the car kicks down in the gearbox, but feels like the turbos have gone - feels VERY flat and none responsive and struggles to rev above 3.5k revs.
If I pull up to a junction, pull off again and its the same.
If however I turn the ignition off and on again, the problem clears and she goes like a rocketship once more...

Any ideas please folks? I bought the car privately so have no comeback. Car is a late 2004 E60 535D with 81k miles.

Thanks in advance,
Lee.

I would bet my right nut its the vacum pipes that have gone. Had v.similar prob on mine. The pipes sit on top of hot engine so get burned through over time. This is very common problem and there are plenty of posts about it. Had all my pipes changed for 80 squid.

Check the error codes and if there's anything mentioned about the DPF, then it could be the same problem that I had.
Take a look: https://5series.net/forums/topic/947...e-for-the-dpf/

As above but my money would be the vacuum pipes especially on a 535d that's 5+ years old.

Had exactly this problem on my 525d. It was a vacuum pipe on the inlet manifold.
MPG has improved slightly after as well (Was 41-42, now 44).

Many thanks for the replies guys.

I have checked the vacuum pipes and one is split in half and not even connected so I guess this will have some bearing on the loss of peformance?

Anyone have any idea how long to replace the hoses and how much length I would need? I have spoken to BMW and they have said they "think" 2m (at £12 per meter!) should do it but seamed unsure!

I'm guessing it would take me an hour or so to do - I don't fancy paying £120 + VAT per hour for a spotty 17 year old oaf to work on my car when I'm more than capable!

Hey that's nice you found the possible problem! Yeah, there's no idea to pay dealer from the job like this if you can do it yourself.
