I m not but my father does. And i am comparing his old E39 528 with his new E60 530 and i must tell u that the E39 is the more comfortable ride. Both cars with 16 inch rims non runflats.
But I think the one thing we all agree on is this chap should ditch the run flats as soon as possible.

Completely disagree, the E60 sport with non runflats is just as smooth a ride as an E39 SE.
It is all about riding in a car with tyres that are rock solid, nothing to do with the suspension.

I agree...but his comparison was of an E60 with Sport versus an E39 without Sport. Meaning the E60 is utilizing RFT, while the E39 does not. That's why I used the analogy.
Yeah but you said try driving an E60 without sport for a fair comparison, to which I replied it is not the suspension that is killing the ride it is the tyres.
Seriously a non sport with 17" runflats is a far harsher ride than a sport with 18" non runflats, the non sport crashes over every bump in the road and feels skitty on anything but the smoothest of corners, get the in the sport with non runflats and all that disappears.

Again I agree. I may have mistakenly thought that the E60 530 without Sport uses non-RFT which would be a more fair comparison. I did not realize that the non-Sport E60 530 used RFT as well! I appreciate your candor and insight.
It really annoys me that BMW are using RFTs on their new cars, as I know 3 people who have test driven the, recently and said that it was just too hard a ride and have bought elsewhere, one an Audi, and the other two both bought mercs. I don't think BMW realise how much they are affecting sales to places outside Germany that don't have perfect roads. Problem is with sales up they would probably disagree, but if I know 3 people who walked away I wonder how many more have?

I went from a non-sport 528 to a sport e39-530 to a sport e60-530.
I think the 528 had a very supple and smooth ride, but not the greatest handling.
The e39 handled much better but had a harsh ride. The e60, because of the AS has a pretty soft ride but is ananimal in the corners. I still have the run flats, however so I can't give a direct comparison on that.
