I'll offer the thought that switching out the plugs and coils requires a lot of disassembly that you'd have to pay somebody to duplicate for the valve cover work. So, if you're not comfortable doing the VC R&R yourself, it would make more sense to pay somebody to do it all. I can't imagine it would cost you any extra since the plugs and coils have to come out to change the gasket(s). This assumes the mechanic would be OK with you suppying the plugs and coils if you're worried about his markup on those parts.

Hey,

Oh sorry, i forgot to mention that i got a misfire on cyl6, so.... i thought i would just replace all coils and sparks on the driver side first... but then again, since i got oil leak from the gasket (my indy told me this), would the oil be leaking into the ignition coils?

Oil leaks can be as little as minor seepage for some techs to suggest replacement. Oil leaking into a spark plug well will defintely cause issues with spark if it gets bad. I had oil in one plug well and no misfire, so it likely would be leaking a fair bit to cause a problem. Still, all the underhood bits at the back of the engine bay need to come off to get the VCs off, so my original thought still applies.

Hey Audiophool,

Yeah, i;ve been watching some youtube (esp from shop4life) regarding the VC gasket replacement (his was on 550 but it is the same engine as 545 right?)

Yes, so... my tech said the leak was coming out from the gasket after he cleaned up everything and i went back there a week later... i just want to solve the misfire issue first since my car is driving quite rough.. and i m hoping it is just the coil that needs to be replaced.

Well if you want to dig in and replace the coil/plugs to chase your misfire that's a fine idea. Just that when you do get the VC gaskets done, somebody else will need to re-do most of the labour. Your car, your call.
