Morning all

Was driving home last night and suddenly my 2004 e60 530d decided to shut down. idrive screen went blank, abs light, engine shut down. could not restart the car. anyway got it towed back to my place, where the RAC jump started the car and it started first time. he then checked the voltage on the battery and it showed 14volts which showed that the car battery was charging ok. he also checked the battery and that seemed ok. started the car this morning and no problems. any ideas of what could have gone wrong?

check [with OBD-II code reader] if there are any diagnostic codes set - even if 'check engine' light is not on.
You may have a intermittent disconnect to alternator/battery - check all the related cables.
Good Luck!

I know cases where the main power cable cover has chaved with the body and the result is a casual short circuit.
The most usual place where this happens is near the battery where the main cable routes out from the trunk. I think you should check it.
