My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Just saw my first confirmed siting (the red SRT badge on the trunk) of a special edition 300C. The distinctive wheels make them fairly easy to spot (have now een two-both black and really low key). I'd be interested in driving one becuase it would have to be a LOT better than the rental Charger Hemi I had while mine was in the shop. That had plenty of torque, but be damned careful pouring it into a corner. The suspension and tires and steering were all very floaty.
Automobile Magazine has written about them, but I haven't had a chance to dig out that back issue. I do remember their commenting on its thirst (right up there in single-digit M5 guzzlerland), but also saying that the brakes were spectacular.
As the grandson and son of a 50-year Chrysler dealer, this marks the first time since their being out of the business (20 years) that I have not had a chance to get my hands (and right foot) on a truly high-performance Mopar product. It's nice to see tham back in the game. Wonder if the MSRP premiums are still holding up under these gas prices?
Cheers,
Ray Hull

I think the 300 MPG ratings were very optimistic. In my simple V6 model I was getting about 18 MPG. I was really dissapointed on this front.
I also think that any Chrysler/Dodge dealers should have the show "King of Cars" taken off the air. I hated going to dealerships thinking that I was just a number.

When does the speed limiter kick in? (on our 525i)
Even the latest model in the UK with 218bhp has an unlimited top speed of 152mph
BMW always limit at 155mph - so the car has to be faster than that to be limited.
There a (possibly apocryphal) story that the 530d (also not limited) has been tested at a couple of miles an hour more than it's official max speed of 155mph, giving it the highest top speed of any production bmw.
