E60 525i Right Rear rubbing/grinding/clunk Sound HELP :)
Been searching the forums with not much luck other then the M5 board, I keep getting a rubbing/clunk sound out of my right rear if I go over a larger bump in the road or make a sharp right turn. I just had a lower control arms replaced in the rear along with an alignment which were bad and I thought was the problem. Well I still have it, I do have aftermarket rims F10 M5 19" rims and I do have sport suspension. My rear tires are 285/35/R19 when my mechanic looked at it, I also searched for forums for about 2 months before I got my tires and many people said they had that size tire in the rear with no problem, and I also say a 528 with 166's with same tire side in person at the stealership but my mechanic looked at it and said no sign of rubbing or tire wear so im kind of lost. Many M5's are experiencing this problem and they are saying replace the rear differential oil, well M cars have an LSD and regular E60's have bmw open differential. They are saying replace it with
BMW part # 83-22-2-282-583
SAF-XJ with FM Booster on it.
Can I use this with an bmw open differential? Any suggestions would help or input im kind of lost.
Also one guy on the forums said he had a problem and it was his right rear sway bar link and that fixed his problem.
I dont want to take a girl out and my car sounds like its falling apart lol
PLEASE HELP ME

I recently took ownership of a 2007 530i Mid march of this year with 77600mi. and I too heard a "clunk" intermittently after a week of driving it to work.
I have replaced the rear diff. oil and have not heard the clunk since. I'm not sure if that was the cause or it just resolved itself but diff oil change is fairly easy and inexpensive. I used Redline 75W90 Diff oil for $18/L bottle (you will need 2 bottles). It's worth a try and the very least is that your car gets new diff fluid and at the same time you will be able to eliminate that as a source of your issue.......Good luck
