Sorry...I did not mean to hijack your thread. Just practical advice.

TOTALLY of subject of a REPAIR but I will tell you that I abandoned my in car nav as soon as Android phones came out with Google maps/nav. It is WAY better. I don't use it in my e60 or HUMMER anymore. I'd spend the $ on a good Android :-)

I have the same issue. Even though the guidance is horrible, the in-motion map is nice to have in the assist window. Your part number for the DVD drive is at this link, item #2 I think. I believe either of the 2 "replace DVD" p/ns will work: NAV DVD PART NUMBER

Actually not really. It talks and maps out everything so far in advance I actually find it easier without ANY distraction from driving. Easier than looking at the in dash nav. You can actually hold it right up in front of you when you need to glance at it. And as far as ACCURACY-the car nav is no match.

hahahaha! yyyessshhh...I didn't know I was going to have to post a legal disclaimer here for some people "I am not an attorney. You should consult with legal counsel to verify compliance with local laws and ordinances in your area prior to following any advice, suggestions or implied practices that I may communicate to you. Most of my ideas are BAD ideas anyway and you should not practice them at home except under direct adult supervision."
Again...sorry for hijacking the thread. Was not my intent.

My Ride: 2008 550I LOADED, all options except HUD and NV
Back to the topic **cough** ColdList **cough**
If the laser head needs to be replaced it will be easier and more cost effective to replace the entire CCC unit instead of just the laser or DVD unit.
BTW, if your NAV has failed, whether you use it or not, it's better to replace it or get it fixed (even if you use your phone) because at some point you will want to sell/trade your car and if the NAV is dead no one in their right mind will buy it
