Question E60 5 Series MPG Questions/Concers

Hi all, I've got a question about my 04 545i that I purchased recently. The problem is that I do not know how to view my average MPG as I travel. The car DID NOT come with an owners manual so I am clueless. Anyway, the screen in the cluster has been displaying an MPG of 14.7 for the past week and I don't know how to reset it (if it really is 14.7 that seems way too low). I want to be able to see my average MPG as i'm driving, if this is even possible. I'm still learning my car so any help is appreciated! Thanks
More info on my car: 6 Spd Manual, no navigation,

Press and hold the "BC" button on the indicator stalk when your on the mpg screen in the dash. Holding BC will reset whatever screen you're on, like trip etc.

That number is your live mpg. He has told you how to reset it. Yes that is low, but city driving, idling and such things will bring the mpg down. If you want a more real time readout then watch the mpg needle in the bottom of your tach. Here is a link to download the owners manual also. Owner's Manual - BMW North America
