My wife and I were walking our dog this afternoon, and I happened to see two e39 M5's - both silver. A couple of years ago my jaw would have dropped. And while I still love the car, it just doesn't look very aggressive anymore. Its ironic because when the e60 first came out I really hated it. But now I own one.
On another note this breakin period is really killing me. It was easier in the M3. At least with the M3 you could go to 5500 RPM and there was a little bit of warning. With the 550 if I put it in Sport Mode and give it gas I am up to 5000 RPM before I can even look down to check. I can't wait for the breaking period to be over so I can drive this car without guilt.

I know what you mean. My friend had a e39 and it looked so badass. But now another friend of mine has one and I'm picking up my e60 Saturday. The e39 really does look dated and tame compared to the e60. I also did not like the look of the e60 when it came out and now I think it is gorgeous!

I completely agree ... I was not a fan of the E60 style at first (snobby me in my E38 740i). But now, to me the previous BMW versions (both the 5 and 7 series), while they still look nice, seem so ... dated. The E60 is so out there that I think it will still look fresh 5 years from now.
darkside - how many more break-in miles to go? I know what you mean ... those rpms whip up real fast. So what if you go over 4,500 a few times ... I don't think it hurts (in fact, it may make for a more responsive engine later). Hang in there, you will be scaring your pants off soon enough.

Ya before the E60 when I saw the M5 I thought it looked soooooooooooo agressive! But now it looks just plain... I'm still in awe when I see one cuz I'll always love the E39 M5 but you're right it looks dated now.
