My Ride: 535d Eccelsa, 05 2005 (built 12-04), sapphireblack, beige dakota leather, electric seats, poplar wood trim, sport suspension, 124 style 18" alloys, differentiated f/r runflat tyres, steptronic, adaptive light control, bi-xenon, BMW PRO nav, cd, cd changer, electric-foldable and automatic antidazzle rear mirrors, automatic antidazzle internal rear mirror, adjustable central armrest, BT, Hifi Professional LOGIC7 , extended functions aircon, full lighting package, green comfort fascia on windshield, PDC park distance control, voice control, CPT9000 car phone, BMW Assist, BMW On-line, BMW Tracking, alarm system, programmable remote controls.
Default

I went to my dealer to ask for a quotation for a possible replacement of E60 535d; the excuse is that my wife wants to switch from the Land Rover she owns now to a city car, so definitively I need to switch to a Touring in order to put all the family and paraphernalia during week-ends and holidays

Well, I asked for a 535d E61 fully loaded with everything, included M-kit and Dynamic Drive: no way, the BMW configurator doesn't allow you to have both options together. Is it a special feature of the Italian market or it's the same all over the world?

Just another curiosity: from year 2006 the AS is not anymore standard in the Attiva version (it was until end of year 2005), being replaced as a standard dotation by the PRO-nav (previously standard was only business nav). Strange, is it?

I think I read in some other threads that the same applies also in the rest of Europe.

Slightly off topic, but why don't you wait for the upgraded version of the engine?

M-sport package is a special suspension that works on the in and out bound to limit the moves of the body roll, but in a mechanical way. It definitely gives a superior behavior compared the factory sport suspension you can order. With dynamic drive, this body roll control is done actively and gives better comfort when you don't need it.

Too bad you can not order it to replace the M-suspension; In fact, you could order the Dynamic drive and add the Aero pack, Cool looks and Cool drive together

The M Sport Model includes an M suspension that is sportier than the Dynamic Drive suspension. I believe this is true in all of Europe.

Sadly, the M suspension is not available in the USA, so I've never tried it. However, I would expect the M suspension to handle better but be less comfortable than Dynamic Drive.

So... what does the M suspension do on the skidpad? The US spec sport-equipped 530i pulls .90g. I don't doubt that the M suspension is better - it would be silly if it weren't, but I wonder by how much. Also, I love the feel of the Dynamic Drive in turns - it's like the car squats down on its haunches.

I had the same feeling, so I ordered mine w DD and luv it. Then added kit after (Hamann front, M rear).
What was strange that we dropped the M pack and could get more stuff in the car, but I think M pack is a nice option.

The M pack has a similar set-up for the suspension from the m5 (shocks and springs). It's essentially the most hardcore suspension setup available for the 5er. It would be illogicly to have smth more comfort oriented and the most hardcore suspension. Why do i say more comfort oriented because imo it's a system that takes away somehow the feel of the car especially in heavy turns (either high speed turns or sudden direction change, that's when driving really hard and pushing it). Just like AS.

I think DD is good, but it still feels artificial to me. Normally, there's a correlation between how a suspension feels in a straight line and how it feels while turning. In all the sports and race cars I've driven, this has been true. But DD isn't like that. You don't expect it to corner so flat based on how cushy the straight line ride is. And you don't expect it to ride the bumps in a straight line based on how flat it corners. It has taken me a while to get used to DD. If I had the choice, I'd take the harder M suspension over DD, but I can understand why so many ppl like DD.

The M suspension is reportedly very similar to the M5 suspension, so I guess its skidpad #s would be similar to the M5's. What are the M5's skidpad #s?

The M5's number is lower than my 530i - Car and Driver tested it at .89g (M5) and .90g (530i sport w/Dunlop RFT)

Could be that heavy engine...
