I had the exactly the same problem. And I understand how frustrating it is.

Took it to the dealer and told the valet person not to shut the engine off since it would clear the fault on i-drive. But regardless, he did shut off the engine. Since then the tech said no fault code was stored and thus could not diagnose the problem. He told me to just bring the car in anytime once I have the warning again. Coming back from the dealer, I had the warning light come on again. I went back to the dealer. Once the tech saw the car with fault code still lit, he took it to the service station and managed to get the problem diagnosed. I can't remember what he exactly replaced but it had to do some parts on the active roll stabilization system.

Yes, I know how frustrating it can be when they say the fault code is not stored

isn't there something in idrive that lets you send a message to the dealer to setup service, if you do it while you have an error message do they get it?

Hi,

I had four warning messages over two months. Had to pull over car, shut down engine, and restart car. Problems went away.

When I got warnings about 'Brakes not safe', I could not restart the car for about 3 minutes -this was scary. When I took my 2004 545i into the dealer, they said it was a faulty alternator. The alternator was replaced last week. All's well so far.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Supposedly, I thought the i-drive sends a message to the dealer to setup a service if you still have subscription to BMW Assist, which I don't anymore. And yes, they were able to diagnose the fault once i took the car in with the fault still showing on the dash/i-drive.

tell your dealer to check the steering fluid
probably needs to be topped off

I agree. Happened to me several times while turining onto road and accelerating. Would reset very next time key off and back on - no codes stored. Dealer found nothing. Then it started doing it when I started car a couple of times. Then the dealer found low fluid and that has fixed it.

BMW Assist is now standard for the full warranty period. My question really was, can they tell remotely what the error codes are? Isn't here a send funtion? I'll check it out tomorrow when I'm driving the car.
