We hear very little about this on this forum.
Is the perceived benefit to the driver, to the passengers, enhanced safety or better performance?
M Sport suspension as part of the M Sport package available in many territories can presumably muddy the waters further.

Dynamic Drive is only available without M Sport Suspension. DD was quite popular in the States because it was standard fit on their 'Sport' package. Apparently, very good because it really reduces roll and improves all round handling and comfort.
I still would like to know who the "comfort" is for. Driver or passengers?
I'd also be interested in someone being able to give a comparative comment. Someone who has experienced both as a driver (and/or possibly as a passenger).

Comfort is for both Pass and Driver. Why would it be different?
There are many ways to reduce roll in corners. Tight springs, big anti-sway (aka roll) bars - these are the 2 conventional ways. Tight springs makes the ride rougher. Big bars also make the ride rougher (but less so for a given roll resistance) but also can cause unbalanced situations by tying the 2 sides together too much.
DD allows for looser springs than would usually be used for a sports package because they can rely more on "big bars" for roll resistance. The bars are not really big but are electronic so can be made to act like really big bars. Since they only come on in a hard turn - they create less problems with "unbalanced situations".
DD is essentially a very primitive active suspension. The suspension tightens up with hard cornering. I've had these before (86 RX-7 and 90 300ZX TT) and those worked by using adjustable shocks. You had a switch to control but they also tightened when sensors detected hard cornering/braking etc. These were okay but tightening shocks is a bad way to do it - since that just controls rebound. The DD is light years ahead of these systems since the 5 series rides smoother and handles better than both of those cars.
DD thus gives comfort by allowing looser springs and by limiting roll - which is far more comfortable than leaning.
As for the hard core - DD weighs a decent amount. You will always handle better with tighter springs and stiffer bars (at least on a smooth surface). So DD is in effect - a compromise between ride and handling. So it makes sense that an M car (or M sport susp) would not have it.

I'm sure you've seen video where passenger and driver movements in a car are different.
That's why I differentiated.
As for how it works, I understood - I was rather more looking for comparative expereince and whether it's of much effect in anything other than spirted driving.

I was hoping for some descriptive comparative experiences.

I love DD.
The handling is way better with it.
You can still feel the G-force, but the car stays even. So it is also more comfortable for everybody in the car.
I have the RFT's, Sports suspension, AS and DD and the feeling/handling is SUPERB.
