I have 2009 528 XI and Navigation completely stopped working..
It worked on and off for awhile..even when the disc is in, it says to insert a disc..
What do you guys think the problem is?
The disc itself is very clean and scratch free

try resetting the Idrive system.. hold down both eject bottons (1 for the cd, 1 for the dvd) and push in the mute volume knob hold down for anywhere from 10-60 sec hold in all 3 till it turns off and turns back on. hope it helps

If it doesnt, it's probably the drive itself thats decided enough is enough....but dont panic, I've just had mine refurbished and a new laser for close on £150, there is a few ebay people doing it.

A DVD can "look" clean and scratch free but may have a bad sector that prevents it being read by the NAV drive. See if your drive will read a music CD - to rule out the NAV drive. Unless you are high on miles your car should be under original warranty - if it is, let a dealer sort it out now (even the originally supplied DVD!!).

Anyways, DVD player reads regular cd perfectly fine.
I think NAV disc has a bad sector as you described.
Does anyone know where I can buy a new nav disc for cheap?

I'm using discs from this seller:
Ebay $50 E60 CCC 2012 Navigation DVD Set
Keep in mind these are burned discs. There has been periodic discussions on possible negative effects on the DVD drive lifespan using burned discs, but nothing conclusive. They work fine on my retrofitted CCC system.

Let me know if that West disc doesn't work. I think I still have my West disc put up somewhere.
