Hi, Does anybody know if it is possible to use the dvd player of the navigation system and watch dvd's on the I-drive screen?

Hi Francois,

There is a rumour that DVD watching will be available with a future update of the I-Drive (around march 2005 is the last I heared). We don't know yet if you need the TV option to watch it or just the pronavigation is enough.

If you want it now there are several options that go with the E60. Iceman has found a company that has a box that can be connected with the I-Drive screen so you can watch TV or connect a DVD player. I cannot find the site at the moment but it's something like freischaltnavigation.de or something.

Iceman will tell us soon (I know).. o:)

Yes he will...

www.freischaltmodul.de

They have a module what has a TV tuner and uses the idrive screen. It overrides the screen, so any idrive information will be invisible, and the TV will use the screen, even while the car is in motion. Touse the idrive screen you have to turn off the module! But that's easy, since you have a remote for it. The good thing about the module is, that it uses the screen and is not having anything to do with the idrive. So it's a stable system what uses the whole screen, not just the left side...

The software update was supposed to bring MP3 ability to CD drive and DVD playing ability to nav drive. Unfortunately the latest BMW rumours are, the software update for MP3 will come in March2005 (and there is a big chance that it will only be possible on MY2005 and later, since the hardware (CD drive) seems to be unable to play MP3, even after the software update - rumours from our board, not sure about the source). There is currently no info on the DVD playing...

But that module from freischaltmodul.de has a AV input, so you can plug a DVD player in too, AFAIK...
