My service manager says my Dunlop RFTs are on the edge of legality after only 30K of VERY gentle driving. Do I have a case for free replacement?

That's about 18K miles on this side of the pond ... unfortunately there is not likely any tread wear warranty on original equipment tires. Maybe your dealer would be willing to give you a break on the replacement tire cost or knock of the mounting and balancing fees. Gently driven or not, ultra high perf tires have softer rubber compounds and wear out quicker than "regular" tires.

RFT's are usually lucky if they last past 20k miles for most people. If they do get by that mileage it seems like go in the next 5K.

I'd just start looking for new tires now(non RFT). Keep your eye open on here, tirerack.com and ebay. Good deals can be found on great tires. Seems like when the time comes that they have to be replaced nothing is ever on sale so start looking now.

He's in France. Don't know if or how much for tirerack to ship there. There must be an equivalent tire discounter there.

In US all you need to do is complain about rough ride and/ot noise and as long as your tires have less than 20K miles (32K Km) you get replacements.

Le TSB pour remplacer le runflats a trois conditions : Vous devez avoir moins de 20,000 miles, bruit routier et le bord int?rieur du pneu doit avoir un certain dessin de v?tements.

Trust me your better off getting regular tires you get more use. RFT are terrible I never could get the full use off these tires .

Ummmm - I got over 40K KM on mine before I replaced them and there was still tread left. I just got tired of the noise.

SergeyM is right. Applies in Canada as well. Dunno about France. If you have under 20K miles on the tires and they're noisy, Dunlop and BWM will replace their runflats because of a known design problem. For free - no prorating. Not bad.

If I recall correctly, the problem (cupping on the inside portion of the tread) only happens with Dunlops and only with Dunlops on BMW cars - go figure. The catch is that they'll only do this once for the life of the car. I had it done when I bought the car. When the noise returned - albeit not as badly - BMW and Dunlop were sympathetic but not helpful.

Bought Michelin PS2's - non-runflat. Happy with them so far (10 days in).

Cheers

Thanks for all the comments. Is there a TSB reference available? I might try using that to persuade them.
