I think it was tires manufactured during most of 2003, which went on the 2004 cars. After that Dunlop fixed the problem. There is a date code on the sidewall of each tire, something like wwyy where w= week (01-52) and y= year (03,04,05). I think thats the coding.

Thanks very much; I'll check.

I truly don't think DUnlop fixed the issue, or if they did, I must have mistakenly gotten an older set. I had a 2004 545i with the Dunlops. replaced the whole car, actually, to a 2005, in April of this year. Car would have had the NEW Dunlops, I imagine. However, starting right around 6500 miles, I once again have the road noise, and bumpy ride, with pulling to the right. Car now has 7700 miles, and it has gotten worse with each mile. Car is going in tomorrow to the dealer.

Will let you know!

Thank you. I would appreciate any additional info you can provide.

My question is, what is too much tire noise? I drive with my windows/sun roof closed almost all the time, and my radio/cd playing.

Now that I've got around 11,000km on the tires, I'm starting to think (after reading all this stuff about tire noise) then I'm driving with my radio/cd turned off, that yes, I can hear my tires ... how much noise to unacceptable? So I hear anything, or should it only be really load ...

I know, I'm asking a difficult questions (how long is a piece of string) but before winter hits and I switch to my winter tires, I'd like to go to my dealer if indeed I have a problem.

You should hear some tire noise. And, all tires will make more noise as they wear. As you indicate "too much tire noise" is difficult to verbalize. For me to say I have too much tire noise, I would have to move from a position of "boy my tires are quiet" to a point where "my tires are are so noisy that I am not enjoying driving my car anymore.?" If you are wondering if you have too much tire noise, then you probably don't.
