I was parallel parked on the street and got in my car to leave. There are 2-3 open spots in front of me so I was about to drive away when a black mercedes whips in front of me to park, so now I have to wait until she parks to leave. What happens:

1) Even though there is plenty of room to park in front of me, she keeps backing up. There is a car behind me so I reverse as much as I can before I hit it, then stop and wait.
2) She still keeps backing up.
3) I'd like to think someone in a new-ish S550 would be somewhat cautious not wanting to ding up their car...I really should not have to honk but I don't want her to hit my car and I'm basically stuck so I honk at her.
4) She stops for 2 seconds, then proceeds to back right into me.

Seriously ? Broad daylight, I'm in my car PARKED and there is MORE than enough room for her to park with the 3 open spaces in front of me.

She claims she didn't see me. Even if she is BLIND, is there not some bell or whistle in her car that goes off if shes within like a foot of another object?

No damage but I was so heated and I don't know how someone could be such an idiot that I had to post!

Husband should not let stupid wifey cruise around in the merc

Man, sucks to hear, but at least no damage. Have to say though, surprised that her car's PDC wasn't going crazy on her.

If it was me I would have waited for her to get too close for comfort and then pushed the horn for a good 30 secs to emphasize that she was doing something stupid. In some European countries its actually normal for a car to gently back into another one when parallel parking.

I can understand where your coming from. We can be as careful with our cars as possible but all it takes is one moronic driver who is not paying attention or just doesnt give a damn. I deal with so many close calls out here in Cali that i installed an electric air horn and PA system behind my front bumper ( the same air horn you would find on a police cruiser or ambulance). It has saved me from being hit twice already so its already paid for itself.

i think cuzz she backed up too quickly for her pdc to kick in. but when she made contact she should have stopped and made the thing go off like crazy but i agree shouldve watched a little and blitz the horn down!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing ... I honked and she didn't hear that either. The funny thing was she wasn't backing up fast, she was inching back and came to a complete stop before actually backing into me. I guess they haven't totally idiot proofed MB yet.
