I've never done it but definitely disconnect the battery before you start or you will get airbag errors. Search in the DIY section for member Anzafin's sport steering wheel install mod or PM him.

Thanks for the link balbs!
DFWBMW550i - did you need to have it replaced or were you able to remove the steering wheel and clean it off with some compressed air?

I was lucky my car was still under warranty so BMW replaced it. However, when I first had the problem and started looking into it, I saw threads of people just opening the steering wheel up and then blowing out every dust they can see.

Mine only comes on every now and then but I find that it comes on more frequently when making sharp turns while moving still (so I tend not to do that) lol but I had mine checked by my friend at BMW and he said it was the SZL. They make a SZL repair kit and BMW sells them but he said that they are pointless because he done a few of them and they ended up going back out after a little bit

You can buy it at BMW. All it does is clean the SZL kind of like how people try and shoot air in there to clean it out. Not to sure about it because I never bought it.

Interesting! Ok, tonights project will be to pop the airbag out and blow some compressed air in there and try to clean things out as much as possible. What does the SZL look like? Any idea where (left side, right side, etc.) i will find it when the airbag is removed?
