Question DSC Malfunction

Friends,

I recently purchased an '04 E60 520i with M54 engine.

When I drive the car sometimes the DSC warning popped out (the yellow triangle with the counterclockwise arrow sign) and the iDrive display ".....bla bla bla...drive moderately".

When I turn off the engine and re-started everything got back to normal. I read around and got idea that the steering wheel sensor might be at fault here. Have you guys have any experience with this problem? what should I check?

Sounds possible but you cant be 100% sure without getting some codes pulled.

you need to retrieve fault codes, preferably using a BMW specific tool, then come back and post what they are. your problem could be anything from a wheel speed sensor to a steering angle sensor. impossible to diagnose without fault codes.

Thanks so much for the info.

The warning only comes out occasionally. Would the fault code come out when there is no warning? Or should I wait until the warning come out and have the car scanned?

Happens to me also, if your signal light doesn't return and stays on the position you're turning is very likely the steering angle sensor.
I read some where here that you can clean it, I haven't done it since it stops popping up for a long while.

No need, the fault code is stored when it happens the first time.

Have you gotten the chance to read codes?

Sorry, I haven't got a chance to scan my car. I've been buried in my work, the before-Christmas-routine.

Hopefully I will have a chance during or after this holiday.

In my case, the turning signal still works normal. It goes off when it's suppose to.

I finally have a chance to get the error codes: it said 28AE "Torque Limitation: Monitoring" .
