Went autocrossing the other day with my new 545i. All in all it performed very well, considering I was carrying 5000 lbs+ while most of the other cars were around 3000 lbs.

I made 4 runs all with DSC and DTC on. From what I could see, you can turn off DSC and run with DTC only, but you cannot run with DSC only and DTC off.

Is this true, or am I just reading the manual wrong, or does anyone suggest running autocross with them both off?????

When you push the button DSC once, it shuts the DSC off, but DTC remains. If push the button for three seconds you'll get two warning lights because DSC and DTC are shut off. You can't switch off DTC and leave DSC on... Why would you do this ? See it like: DTC is level one, DSC is level two. You are a level higher when DSC is activated, so your DTC will be overruled by DSC.
Anyways, I don't know about any situation where you want DTC off and DSC on...
I wouldn't go autocrossing in my 545...
But if... Switching it on or off is your preference. Some ppl like it off, some on...

FWIW, our cars' curb weight is only about 4100 lbs or so; unless you were hauling a load of cement in your trunk.

That doesn't diminish their ability to get around a track in pretty good shape.

I wouldn't go autocrossing in my 545 either, but some good laps around a nice road course would be alot of fun, I think.

I can't wait to go on "The Ring" for a couple laps.

bimmeri-
Be careful with to much autocrossing...you'll void the warranty.

Well, since you mention it...

My wife and I will do ED on an X3 next spring (I'm never _not_ going to do ED on a new bimmer) and will tour around northern Italy. For _my_ next ED in 2007, we're going up to the Rhine Valley and the Eifel region, and you can bet money that I'll be putting in some laps on the 'Ring in my new 5xx (whatever they replace the 545 with by then).
