Eh basically the same thing...
Activating DTC is like esentially disabling part of the DSC to me.
BMW technically calls it Activating DTC.

My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!
my car's button says DTC.
you press the button to activate DTC mode. seems pretty logical and well-labelled.
you hold it down to disable DSC. not very logical nor well-labelled.

it confused me greatly as i have one called DTC.
i presumed pressing it would turn the traction control off.....it was only after i read the manual i realised it actually gave me more traction control and only if i held it down would it all go off.

I think it makes more sense if you look at it this way
Assume DSC is always on (which it is)
If you want to engage DTC then you press the DTC button - obvious really.
If you are a really 'determined' type and want to get sideways - then you can turn of DSC and DTC by holding down the button for 4 secs.

ahhhh yes, it allcomes to me now......
DTC is the super-sedate ///M traction control
it runs off of the the same origional allgorithms but is more sedate than its counter part, ///m traction (as seen on the new m cars)
dsc has more control over the car (throttle, and in smg, clutch slipage, and individual braking)
DTC is based on traction while DSC is based on stability, 2 different things
DTC is a more lax verion of dsc basically, you can slide and stuff, more than dsc.... but it will still save your ass if you mess up
so from 1 to 3 as in 1 being the least controling controlling of the car:
1. ///M stability
2.dtc
3 dsc
