I think Servotronic is not standard. it is optional. According to the E60 brochure. I wish it was standard..it is a nice feature...i test drove a 530 with it and it was sweet.

IMHO - While DCS is a wonderful thing the car is so much more fun to drive with the whole thing turned off !!!

AMEN to that!
On snow yeah maybe, but the true joy and masterclass comes on dry tarmac.

Servotronic steering is now standard in the UK and this below is taken from the BMW USA website so it must be standard in the US ?

Handling, ride and braking
4-wheel ventilated anti-lock disc brakes (ABS) with Dynamic Brake Control (DBC)
Vehicle-speed-sensitive variable-assist (Servotronic), variable-ratio power steering
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), including Comfort Stop,1 Brake Fade Compensation, Start-off Assistant, Brake Drying, and Brake Stand-by features, with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)

Nice..maybe I mis-read something. I'll let you know when I get my car in a month or so.

By the way, I think you can be correct, I test drove a 530i and it did not have sportpackage nor active steering and it felt so smoth. Maybe because of the standard ((Servotronic) ?

I think it applies more break pressure for you once they are heating up.

Wouldn't that make the problem worse? I thought it allows the pads to cool by actually taking them off the discs - I presume this must reduce breaking effectiveness but ultimately reduce fade.

I dunno... you might be right. But reducing breaking isnt good either... I figured theres a point where it cant compensate anymore and it'll start warning you to brake moderatly and then finally go "DING" please stop braking to prevent damage.

You know... the famous E60 "stop doing this so this wont brake"
