I got a chance to drive my drunken friends 545 back to his house to drop it off today and I had to say I was very surprised. It felt WAy slower than the 550s I have driven and not really all that different from my 530 with an intake exhaust and chip-with probably 275ish pounds. I couldnt figure out why but than realized the 530 is ligther and sure enough it is 250 pounds lighter or so 3500 v. 3750. Plus I have about 130 pounds weight taken out of mine-so about 360 pounds of weight which is in the 35 equivelent horsepower range.

The 545 had 325 hp I believe and with the weight conversion and a couple bolt ons the 530 runs equivlent hp of 300 including the 300 pounds less weight it gains about 30 equivlent horses. So seperated only by about 25 horses and this was pre-blower on mine.

It makes sense since most 0-60 times were in the 5.5 range for a 545 and I always ran 5.6-.57 in my 530 with bolt ons which makes sense for about 25 more horses.

People forget how improtant weight is. Ya the 545 had a bigger v8 but had almost 300 pounds more to lug around-

Lately I have realized what an impressive car the 530 was even in its stock form, it is light and with its 258 hp that is easily moddalbe to 270 with a coupel bolt ons-then consider the weight savings compared to heavier bimmmers and it is not far at all from the 545 and 535. And within 60hp of the 550.

But the 545i is the fastest ever E60... BMW got fed up of it thrashing the M5 so they released the 550i!

Yeah we on this forum _knows_ that thanks to a certain member...

RWB:
Your 530i supercharged, so the outcome isn't very surprising.

Quite .... I recently had a 740 loaner and it was slower, less nibble and overall slug compared to my stock 530i.

It is a matter of time before member "AlexFW" chimes in on this one.

Here is one of Alex's best quotes:
"I'm sorry you can't understand : on the road, the M5 isn't faster than a 545i/550i ."
