Well after reading the warnings before purchasing my 545i last year. The dreaded oil leak problem has struck my car too. To the tune of $3000. They have to pull the motor and replace a seal, along with the valve cover gaskets and something else (I can't remember, I'm too depressed), and it's gonna take 3 days. So I'm going to throwback another beer and toast to expensive German engineering. Cheers!

I feel your pain. Welcome to the club. Mine was to a tune of about $4000!! Same deal, they took out my entire motor and replaced a ton of stuff. The car drive like a dream now but keeping my fingers crossed nothing else goes wrong.

where are the leaks besides the valve covers?

what year/mileage.....just wondered how long i have until i have to pull my motor......i always wanted to own an engine stand anyway !

would like to pull a german motor too, done a few japanese and american ones.

i'll do the work myself, ain't paying 3-4k for that.

@ 93000 miles both valve covers and both upper timing covers
@ 96000 lower oil pan gasket, water pump, radiator and valley pan (coolant leak)

Now at 103000 and the car is "under construction" again:
- upper oil pan gasket
- oil gasket behind the alternator bracket
- coolant leak behind the transmission (end cover 11147504376) ? very painful project

I am doing the work myself... There is no need to pull the engine out to do any of the projects mentioned above.

thats just a damn shame, no modern engine should puke all its vital fluids at 100k. wifey's audi 4.2 engine at 140k has absolutely no leaks and purrs like a new one. i would have guessed the bmw engine was just as good, wrong!

are these 2004 engines, are the 2005s any better?

I feel your pain I'm in the process now I have so many leaks smh, but the work is in the process of being done waiting on a head gasket on backorder @bimmer722 did your car feel a little more powerful after being fixed? I was always under the impression that leaks himder the compression on NA motors
